Welcome to Sun Chili!Soft ASP 3.6.2 for Microsoft
Windows NT and Windows 2000. This README contains the
latest information about Sun Chili!Soft ASP 3.6.2. Be
sure to review this information before proceeding with
your use of the product.
Our goal is to make Sun Chili!Soft ASP the perfect
product for you. To do that, we need your feedback.

2. New in This Release
----------------------------------------------------------
Sun Chili!Soft ASP 3.6.2 for Windows includes the
following new features:
2.1 iPLANET WEB SERVER 6.0 DETECTION
Sun Chili!Soft ASP 3.6.2 is available free for iPlanet
Web Server 6.0. When iPlanet Web Server 6.0 is detected
during installation, you automatically receive a full,
unlimited license.
2.2 APACHE 1.3.22, APACHE 2.0.x, AND iPLANET 6.0 SUPPORT
Sun Chili!Soft ASP 3.6.2 now provides support for Apache
1.3.22, Apache 2.0.x, and iPlanet Web Server 6.0 (for
iPlanet, see section 4.4).

3. System Requirements
----------------------------------------------------------
This section lists the hardware and software requirements
for installing and running Sun Chili!Soft ASP 3.6.2.
3.1 HARDWARE
* 256 MB RAM
* Pentium processor
* 100 MB free hard disk space
3.2 OPERATING SYSTEM
* Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 SP6 or
* Microsoft Windows 2000 Server SP1
3.3 WEB SERVER
You must be running one of the following Web servers:
* Apache 1.3.22
* Apache 2.0.x
* iPlanet Web Server, Enterprise Edition 6.0 SP1
NOTE: Sun Chili!Soft ASP may install to other versions
of the supported Web servers listed above (Apache
1.3.12, for example). However, versions not listed
have not been certified to run with Sun Chili!Soft ASP
3.6.2, and their use is not supported by Sun
Chili!Soft Customer Support.
3.4 OPTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
a. Internet Explorer 5.0 or Internet Information Server

Windows NT requirement: To use VBScript, JScript,
the FileSystemObject object, and the BrowsCap
component with Sun Chili!Soft ASP, Internet
Explorer 5.0 or higher or any version of Internet
Information Server (IIS) must be installed on your
Web server.
Windows 2000 requirement: To use VBScript and
JScript with Sun Chili!Soft ASP, Internet Explorer
5.0 or higher or any version of Internet Information
Server (IIS) must be installed on your Web server.
b. MDAC 2.5
---------
To install and use the Sun Chili!Soft ASP ADO
samples, MDAC 2.5 or higher must be installed on
your computer. If you need to install a newer
version of MDAC, you can do so during the
installation of Sun Chili!Soft ASP. You must
select the option to install the Sun Chili!Soft
ASP samples, and then confirm the installation
of MDAC.
c. Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions
--------------------------------------
Sun Chili!Soft ASP enables you to run ASP pages
generated by Microsoft FrontPage. FrontPage Server
Extensions provide services to the Web server that
work in conjunction with Sun Chili!Soft ASP to
provide FrontPage functionality to computers not
running Microsoft Windows NT or Windows 2000 and
Internet Information Services (IIS).
FrontPage Server Extensions are not installed with
Sun Chili!Soft ASP; you must obtain them from
Microsoft. Questions about the installation,
configuration, and use of FrontPage and FrontPage
Server Extensions should be directed to Microsoft
or its representatives.

4. Application Notes
----------------------------------------------------------
4.1 LICENSE FILE REQUIREMENT
Sun Chili!Soft ASP requires a valid license file to
run correctly. This license file is named 'CSRETAIL.LIC'.
If you are installing a trial version of the software,
this product will run for 30 days from the date of
installation. If you have purchased a copy and want
to enable the trial version as a full version, you must
copy the license file on the CD-ROM into the license
directory (%SystemRoot%\System32\chiliasp\vroots). If
you are installing from a CD-ROM, the license file is
copied to the appropriate location for you.
4.2 ACCESSING DOCUMENTATION
Sun Chili!Soft ASP 3.6.2 includes product documentation
in both HTML and Adobe PDF format. The documentation
provides detailed information about installing,
configuring, and using Sun Chili!Soft ASP, and can be
found on the Sun Chili!Soft Web site at:
http://www.chilisoft.com/caspdoc
If you choose the option to enable documentation during
installation, you can also access the documentation from
your Web server at:
http://[HOSTNAME]/caspdoc/
where [HOSTNAME] is the hostname of the Web server
configured to run with Sun Chili!Soft ASP.
4.3 SUPPORTED WEB SERVERS
Sun Chili!Soft ASP 3.6.2 may install to other versions of
the supported Web servers listed in section 3.3 in this
README (Apache 1.3.12, for example). However, versions not
listed have not been certified to run with Sun Chili!Soft
ASP 3.6.2, and their use is not supported by Sun Chili!Soft
Customer Support.
4.4 iPLANET WEB SERVER 6.0
Sun Chili!Soft ASP supports the DEFAULT installation of
iPlanet 6.0 only. If the default installation settings are
changed, iPlanet 6.0 is not supported by Sun Chili!Soft
Customer Support.
4.5 VBSCRIPT, JSCRIPT, FILESYSTEMOBJECT OBJECT, AND
BROWSCAP COMPONENT
- For Windows NT: To use VBScript, JScript, the
FileSystemObject object, and the BrowsCap component
with Sun Chili!Soft ASP 3.6.2, you must have either
Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher or any version of
Internet Information Server (IIS) installed on your
Web server.
- For Windows 2000: To use VBScript and JScript with
Sun Chili!Soft ASP 3.6.2, you must have either Internet
Explorer 5.0 or higher or any version of Internet
Information Server (IIS) installed on your Web server.
4.6 ADO SUPPORT
Sun Chili!Soft ASP 3.6.2 for Windows uses the Microsoft
ADO component.
4.7 MDAC 2.5
To install and use the Sun Chili!Soft ASP ADO samples,
MDAC 2.5 or higher must be installed on your computer.
If you need to install a newer version of MDAC, you can
do so during the installation of Sun Chili!Soft ASP. You
must select the option to install the Sun Chili!Soft ASP
samples, and then confirm the installation of MDAC.

5. Known Issues
----------------------------------------------------------
5.1 iPLANET-RELATED ISSUES
- Installations of iPlanet Web servers may sometimes
leave ODBC in an improper state. If this happens, you
may see error messages when Sun Chili!Soft ASP tries
to install the most current version of ODBC. Accept
the default choices that the ODBC installation gives
you, and let the installation run to completion. The
ODBC installation will clean up the ODBC state.
- iPlanet Web servers are case sensitive regarding URLs.
- For iPlanet Web servers, Sun Chili!Soft ASP only supports
one instance of LoadObjects in the magnus.conf file.
5.2 CLIENTCERTIFICATES COLLECTION
- Due to inconsistent API support for client certificates
by the supported Web servers, the Active Server Page
ClientCertificates collection is not supported by Sun
Chili!Soft ASP 3.6.2.
5.3 CODEPAGE AND LCID
- There is no support for CODEPAGE and LCID. The commands
are recognized, but not acted on properly.
5.4 LOGGING WITH VHOST
- Due to an apparent bug in Apache 2.0.x, logging with
vhost will create large log files. See Apache 2.0.x
documentation for more information.

6. Getting Started with Sun Chili!Soft ASP
----------------------------------------------------------
6.1 STARTING AND STOPPING SUN CHILI!SOFT ASP
Sun Chili!Soft ASP runs automatically whenever an ASP
page is requested by a user (provided the Web server
is running). Sun Chili!Soft ASP runs until the Web
server is stopped. When the Web server is restarted,
Sun Chili!Soft ASP will not run until an ASP page is
requested by a user.
6.2 CONFIGURING SUN CHILI!SOFT ASP
The Sun Chili!Soft ASP Administration Console is referenced
throughout the product documentation. The Administration
Console is available only for UNIX versions of Sun Chili!Soft
ASP. With Sun Chili!Soft ASP for Windows, all configuration
is performed during installation. Some Sun Chili!Soft ASP
configuration information is stored in registry settings,
however, and EXPERT users may choose to use regedit32 to
edit those settings. For more information, see "Editing the
Windows Registry" in "Chapter 3: Managing Sun Chili!Soft
ASP" in the product documentation.
6.3 DEFINING ASP APPLICATIONS
With Sun Chili!Soft ASP for Windows, ASP applications
are defined by adding aliases or virtual directories to
the Web server. Sun Chili!Soft ASP treats each alias or
virtual directory as an ASP application. With Apache Web
Server, ASP applications are defined by adding an alias to
the httpd.conf file. With iPlanet Web Server, ASP
applications are defined by adding an "additional document
directory" using the server's Administration tool.
6.4 CONFIGURING DATA SOURCE NAMES
For Windows systems, data source names are created and
managed from the Windows Control Panel (double-click the
ODBC Data Sources icon). See Microsoft documentation for
more information about using the Windows ODBC Data Source
Administrator.

7. Troubleshooting
----------------------------------------------------------
This section provides troubleshooting tips for problems
you might encounter when using Sun Chili!Soft ASP.
- First, make sure your Web server is running.
- If the Web server will not start, try changing the user
account that the Web server service is using.
- If the Web server is not executing the Active Server
Page (you see the ASP source code instead of the
expected results), make sure that:
* All Active Server Pages have the .asp file
extension.
* Your Active Server Page is in a virtual directory
that has execute privileges for the Web server.
* You are accessing the Active Server Page using
a proper URL. The Active Server Page will not
be executed when accessed as a local file
(using file:// instead of http://).
* The actual Active Server Page file has "Read"
privileges for the Web server user account.
- If the Active Server Pages are being executed, but you
are having problems calling ActiveX components, make
sure that DCOM is enabled, that the proper privileges are
set, and that the Web server user account has the proper
privileges to access the object.

Support, as described in the following section.
